Bevara Building Services
We’d like to nominate Ken Walsh, a Building Engineer for Bevara Building Services in Tacoma, Washington. His team provides maintenance services for a five-building portfolio in Washington State for Physicians Realty Trust using Building Engines. From Q1 2018 to Q1 2019, the team’s average response rate for 3,700 work orders from receipt to completion was a fantastic 4.25 hours, while “good” work order satisfaction scores were an incredible 97%.
Ken and his team recently completed a six-month curtain wall system project, necessitating a full window and exterior panel replacement, in the winter, in the Pacific Northwest–not an easy feat!
The project occurred at Physicians Medical Center, a 40,000 SF, fully-occupied medical building managed for Physicians Realty Trust by the Davis Group and maintained by Bevara. This facility provides cancer care seven days a week. Building entrances and parking were affected by scaffolding and the tent-like covering that enveloped the property. Maintaining tenant spaces and property “quiet enjoyment” were a challenge as the building stayed open for the duration of the project. Sophisticated medical equipment and testing equipment had to be protected and moved, and the continued care of the patient experience was paramount.
From start to finish, Bevara Building Engineer, Ken Walsh, was a project facilitator, ambassador, and liaison, ensuring smooth workflow and communication between contractors, healthcare clients, and their patients. Thanks to Ken’s efforts, the demolition, drilling, and other disruptive aspects of the project were completed ahead of schedule.
In the words of George Bruce, the Project Manager at Aldrich who was the lead contractor in this process, Ken was “instrumental in our success.” George shared, “His demeanor, knowledge of building systems and construction logistics have been an asset to the project. Ken has the rare ability to successfully communicate with the various tenant personalities while being extremely mindful of patient needs. [The successful completion of this project] would not have been possible without the efforts of Ken Walsh.” Ken Walsh is a tremendous asset to the Physicians Realty Trust team who is integral to our ability to exceed our healthcare partners’ expectations.
In September 2018, our team began a capital project that consisted of replacing all the windows in a fully-occupied medical building. We knew this was a tremendous undertaking and we all braced ourselves for the months to come. A new engineer on our team, Ken Walsh, in his friendly, personable style, quickly inserted himself in the process. He offered assurance to the tenants and staff and learned what was important in their operations in order to best help coordinate work schedule and then worked directly with the contractors to help keep the schedule moving smoothly. Through 60 days worth of change orders and a month of blizzard, this project finished on time and Ken’s role in keeping things on track was a huge part of this. We are so grateful for his part in this not just for his help but for the positive spirit he brings with him. The tenants adore him and have all reminded him they will miss seeing him now that the project is done. He’s everyone’s hero in this crazy adventure.
