I nominate Tom Murphy of NAI Hiffman for Management Hero. Tom is a General Manager / Vice President at NAI Hiffman (Management Services) and I have the pleasure of being a member of his team.
Tom is extremely passionate of his role as a Manager and it’s his passion that is the foundation of his ever-evolving innovative ideas for both tenants and clients. He is a forward thinker and strives to be greater than our competition. From on-site food trucks, mobile spa and car washes to advocating/securing high end food vending (micro-market) in lieu of a managed cafe increasing overall tenant satisfaction for little to no cost to our clients/owners. Tom continually proves to be an invaluable source to clients, tenants and his team.
It’s staggering how the efforts of one person can truly make an impact. I, myself have become inspired to “think forward” and stay ahead of the competition. There are times while I am out shopping or walking and see something that is different (lighting, flowers, signage); I take pictures and send them to Tom or my file and identify them for future use. Passion and creativity is contagious.
Tom is committed and involved with the day to day operations of the building(s) and continuously provides on-site staff with recommendations on how to improve operationally. From arranging meetings with LED lighting vendors to jump start a change, to modifying HVAC start-up times to utility trending; all recommendations that have proved to be successful expense reductions over the last 5 months for a Naperville managed asset.
Tom is not only a leader, but a mentor and deserves recognition for his zest of the business and his ability to cultivate a team that embodies the same.
Interesting fact about finalist:
My childhood nickname was “Turkey-T”
What they love most about their job:
I do not have to wait long in order to see the results of decisions I make. When I set a course for change, either through introducing a new amenity to a property or replacing outdated building systems I get to see those results because they are material.
The piece of work technology do they depend on most:
My smart phone. I have my applications such as Building Engines, Sign Now, Email, and Calendar to keep me on track and connected to transact business while I am mobile.
